Prolonged Path to Canadian Residency

The “Canada’s Lifeboat Program”, established for Hong Kong residents in response to the Hong Kong National Security Law, has been in place for three years. Through studying or working, Hongkongers relocating to Canada have gradually become eligible to apply for permanent residency. However, since the end of last year, the approval process has slowed down, with some applicants waiting for over a year without having their residency approved. So far, more than 9,000 applications are still pending approval.
