My Beatles Journey
For Beatles fans worldwide, a trip to Liverpool isn’t complete without visiting the Cavern Club, the birthplace of the iconic band. Today, Jim, a Hong Kong native, performs there twice a week, captivating the local audience with his music.
So, who is Jim? In the 1970s, he competed in the “Sharp Night” a popular singing competition in Hong Kong, securing second place. The contest launched the careers of several Hong Kong pop stars, including Danny Chan, Frances Yip, Albert Au, and Elisa Chan. Though Jim initially pursued a full-time career as a lounge singer after the competition, his music dreams were short-lived.
Approaching his 60s, Jim picked up his guitar once more, performing on the streets (busking) of Lamma Island. In 2019, he caught the attention of a Cavern Club manager visiting Hong Kong, who invited him to perform at Liverpool’s annual Beatleweek. By 2022, Jim had moved to the UK, returned to the Cavern Club, and was invited for regular performances.
Now 66, Jim has never released a professional record, but his journey from street performer to the stage once graced by his idols is the happiest chapter of his life.
